Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl is an Icelandic writer. Born in Reykjavík in 1978 and raised in Ísafjörður (in the northwest of Iceland (in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (which covers a sizable portion of the globe))). For 21 years he lived in the same house but has since then lived in Berlin, Trondheim, The Faroe Islands, Reykjavík and various places in Denmark, Finland and Sweden. He’s published loads of books through various organizations, some of which he helped found, and others he helped bankrupt (see a full list below). He currently lives in Ísafjörður. Sometimes Eiríkur makes (award-winning!) animated poetry and quite often he performs (mind-blowing!) sound poetry at festivals of art, music and poetry.

In 2013 his novel Illska (Evil) was nominated for the Nordic Council’s Literary Award.

In 2013 Eiríkur was awarded the Icelandic Literary Award for his novel Illska (Evil).

In 2012 Eiríkur was awarded the Icelandic Book Sellers Award for his novel Illska (Evil).

In 2012 Eiríkur was poet in residence at the Library of Water in Stykkishólmur, Iceland.

In 2010 Eiríkur received a ‘Special Mention’ at the Zebra Poetry Film Festival for his animated poem Höpöhöpö Böks.

In 2008 Eiríkur received the Icelandic Translation Award for his translation of Motherless Brooklyn by Jonathan Lethem. Among other books he’s translated is Maíkonungurinn – selected poems by Allen Ginsberg and 131.839 slög með bilum, an anthology of foreign contemporary and experimental poetry.

In 2007 Eiríkur received ‘The Red Feather’, an award for erotic writing given by the Krummi Reading Society.

In 2006 Eiríkur received the runner-up prize in Ljóðstafur Jóns úr Vör, Iceland’s most prestigious poetry prize, for his poem Parabólusetning (available here in Jonas Moody’s english translation).
